SGA partnered with

SOSV

to imagine and execute a sprawling 30,000 square foot lab, office, and coworking space that embodies the companY’S mission and spirit.

The new facility occupies the entire ninth floor of 7 Penn Plaza, a stone’s throw away from Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, making this dynamic ecosystem a prime destination for life science innovators across all five boroughs and the greater metropolitan area. This fit-out provides the organization with BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories, two vibrant workspace areas, a spacious event room ideal for community engagement, and plenty of space for continued discovery.

In line with the SOSV startup development program model, which provides early-stage deep tech startups with technical and company-building expertise and well-equipped lab and fabrication facilities, the space was designed to enhance collaborative efforts while fostering growth. As part of the SOSV program, new founders come through the space every few months. This requires an incredibly flexible work environment, which has been reflected in the configuration and programming of the space.

With the goal to spark ideas and foster connection, every element has been carefully considered to ensure it adds not only aesthetic appeal, but inherent value. For instance, the hospitality-inspired reception area and public space has been imagined as a collective gathering area for those in the program to share findings with one another. It also serves as an invaluable community venue to convene founders, scientists, researchers, engineers, and investors across the ecosystem.

The open office is punctuated by huddle rooms, phone booths, and gathering areas for different start-ups and entrepreneurs to come together and share ideas. This new space also features a showroom and a podcast studio that allow founders to share their stories with broader audiences.
