SGA has been engaged by the Lupoli Companies to design a new signature building at the heart of the 46-acre, live-work-place campus known as
Riverwalk.
Situated alongside the Merrimack River in Lawrence, MA, the campus is reinvigorating a historic area once home to iconic mill manufacturers with new commercial, office, and residential properties. This unique project consists of an 80,000-square-foot mixed-used building and an elevated sports field atop a three-story parking garage.
The challenge of this project is the complex planning of its programming—a mix of retail, restaurant, event space, and corporate office programming with floor levels that directly connect to the adjacent sports field and parking garage.
Intended to be a gathering point for the community, the new building incorporates a broad mix of uses to activate the center of the campus. SGA’s design team worked closely with the client to optimize the functionality of each space to streamline circulation and servicing.
The modern exterior design of the new building incorporates brick and steel to celebrate the site’s industrial past, while the interior entry lobby integrates a green wall and wood baffling to create a warm and welcoming environment. This project marks a new chapter in the evolution of the Riverwalk campus, which continues its emergence as a regional hub for medical and life science firms as well as an anchor for the local community.
