Over the course of his career, which spans more than three decades, Dorran has developed a reputation for bringing projects to successful and award-winning conclusions. But he doesn’t celebrate completions until about two to three years later. That is when he checks in with the users and learns that spaces continue to serve occupants as they were designed to do.
Variety characterizes Dorran’s portfolio. He has designed and managed construction for core and shell buildings, common areas, and tenant fit-outs in a wide range of market sectors, including commercial, life sciences, hospitality, breweries, athletic facilities, and institutional developments. No two projects within his portfolio resemble each other. As Dorran explains, his job is not to give clients the “Dorran Prescott experience,” but rather to provide them customized space that fits their specific needs and supports their business growth.
Before joining SGA, Dorran served as a senior associate for six years at Perkins + Will, and for sixteen at TRO Jung Brannen (now SmithGroup) in Boston. In those positions, he honed his expertise as a senior interior designer and as a project manager, gaining valuable experience on domestic and overseas commissions in the Middle East and in Africa.
Dorran earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Outside of the office, he enjoys reading historic autobiographies, participating in community and church activities in his town on the South Shore, playing golf and baseball, and watching hockey. He and his wife Pauline, who have been married for nearly 30 years, are empty nesters: Their son recently graduated from college in Ohio and their daughter is currently in school in Southern California.
