Who We Are

Carly Phelan

Senior Interior Designer

Carly, who has a strong background in healthcare design, applies the principles of this field to her work across all sectors.  She employs a holistic approach that integrates the needs of the end-user, the geographical surroundings, and the impact materiality has on atmosphere.   Her projects, which range from life sciences to corporate office environments, focus on the strategic promotion of wellness and positive experiences.  She achieves these goals by applying color psychology and devoting attention to the careful design of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E).

Prior to moving to NYC, Carly lived in San Francisco.  There she worked as an interior designer in the healthcare studio at SmithGroup, developing her experience and passion for healthcare design. Upon moving to New York, she served as an interior designer for Gertler & Wente, where she led a variety of healthcare projects.  Most recently, Carly was a senior interior designer at HoK, where she specialized in FF&E.

Carly earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental design from UCLA and her master’s degree in interior architecture from UC Berkeley. She was raised by her Irish parents in Santa Barbara, CA. Their experiences as immigrants inspire her to take on new challenges, such as her move to New York in 2017. Today, she takes full advantage of the city’s endless store of opportunities. In her spare time she loves to attend, and write for, stand-up comedy shows. She also enjoys cooking for her family and friends and exercising project management when preparing new recipes and multiple dishes for the meals. Carly’s extracurricular interests reflect her career aspirations: creating experiences that promote the quality of life.
