MACOM TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

, a leading developer and producer of radio, microwave, and millimeter wave semiconductor devices and components, chose SGA to design its new two-story headquarters.

A multi-story “link” connects the new space to the existing building, and additional site improvements create an active, unique campus setting in Lowell, MA.

To guide the process, SGA conducted comprehensive programming + envisioning interviews to inform design decisions. Both the exterior and interior building materials were inspired by the industrial buildings that once populated the city.

The headquarters includes open office, kitchen and corporate cafeteria, training and conference center, “all hands” meeting space and other building amenity zones.

The double-high lobby features custom semiconductor-inspired graphics that visually merge with “Mill City” maps; a curated timeline exhibit can be seen through the glass by pedestrians.

Overall, the space not only celebrates the history of the innovative company, but it also pays homage to the city of Lowell.

A two-story cafe wall boasts a three-dimensional sine wave built from over 400
metal wafer replicas that ungulate up the wall to a balcony area.
